Virus Worry Warts or Just Smart

This is about limiting contact and exposure to sickness.
I have had a few people ask me about the Virus which seems to be traveling the world. I'm not any kind of trained expert but sometimes common sense does count for something. I will be posting more on the subject and as usual I'm gabby so sorry about that.
We hear " global pandemic " "Spanish Flu" "60% of world dies". All very scary things to hear and think about. Some will go around screaming like chicken little." The sky is falling, it's the second coming! The new world order is doing it now !!!! " So ok get it out of your system. Yell some more, scare the people around you. Well just enough so they don't look at you cross eyed when you turn prepper mode on.
Let's get sensible ..... WHAT THE HECK CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT! YOU CAN'T STOP IT !!! Ok I had to yell one more time.
More than likely we have all gone through something very similar we just didn't have all the news yelling about it scaring us so much. Maybe not but I wouldn't be surprised at all.
What can we do?? We can't stop it. We may not be able to totally avoid it. We can try to avoid getting sick. We can try to be a little more thoughtful in ramping up our bodies immunity. We can get ready for being sick by making our very own quarantine sick room. What ???  We don't do sick right at home ya know. We suffer and make everyone around us miserable laying around the couch and everyone eventually gets sick when we share it with the rest of the family then sometimes pass it all around again!
I hate to go to links but it is too long to put the info here. This in particular is talking about Ebola but it applies to any other infectious thing out there that might get us.
Have you prepared your 'sick room' for a pandemic outbreak possibility?

This has a list of things to consider doing and getting. Is it necessary? Do you have any person in the house or come in contact with that is on Meds for heart, diabetes, over 50 yo. , Lung issues like asthma ? Maybe it's something else. Still anyone on daily meds is probably not able to fight off illness as good as someone healthier. That doesn't mean to put just that health compromised person in the sick room that means anyone in the house that gets sick. Maybe you can slow it down or skip it for the rest of the family. Maybe even prevent some of the complications that go along with the virus.
Nothing we can do at home is a good substitute for a good doctor or nurse or pharmacy drugs if you get seriously sick. Some of us may be really talented with herbals, oils or homeopathy but not many. So if you can do something at home in limiting contact with the public and other sick folks you are a few steps ahead. If everything really did go south and the doctors and hospitals couldn't handle things or if folks got sent to some huge arena or encampment to try to get well ....... that would be a horrible thing to try to endure so it's best if we try to avoid all that with better health in general or being able to nurse our family at home.
So sick room ??? It's a good idea just in case.
Ok so maybe we don't shelter in place ... yet .... or it just doesn't get that bad. We have to make some general and really simple changes in our daily routine. Well I say simple but it is really hard to change even little habits overnight.
So you want to limit your contact with other folks.
____ That means not stopping by the bakery, service station, Mc Donalds, or wherever in the morning on the way to school or work to pick up a little something for breakfast or other meal during the day. So what you didn't go in... you still exposed yourself and family to the persons handling your food. Their germs are all over the food and the wrappers or containers you get it in. You then actually ingest those mean little viral things that is making people sick and take it home to the family or work or school.
..........
NEW HABIT Take your lunch or other meal the good old fashioned way with a sack or lunch box. (save a load of money) Make that coffee or soda drink and take it with you instead of stopping in somewhere else. Try to make these old school ways new habits.

----- You go to work or school ..... you have to make money or the schools haven't shut down yet so you feel you have to go there. What the heck do you do?? Well.... you quit gabbing close up with the folks in those places, no shaking hands, hugging or whatever greeting is going on there. Quit borrowing items from folks, pens, books etc. Wash your hands as much as possible or take something to clean your hands.
.......
NEW HABIT When you come home change your clothing and leave your shoes outside instead of directly in the house or by the door so you don't track in all those public germs. Wash those clothes as soon as you can every day. If you can work or learn from home wonderful.

----- Got to go to the bathroom in a public place ??? Well ... try not to touch ANYTHING !! That is really hard for lady's to do. Years ago I remember my mom laying tissue all around the rim.... somehow I just don't think that is enough lol. Take a can of disinfectant spray in the pocket or purse ??? Good question. At least at home it is family germs not a few dozen or hundreds of other people before you and you know you have cleaned it properly. You can actually use a paper towel to turn off and open things once you are done and washed you hands.
.........
NEW HABIT I don't have any real suggestions for that other than if making a short trip somewhere be sure to go do your thing before you leave the house and limit the foods or fluids while your out. Maybe you won't have to "go" while out. If your in charge of something at school or work try to get the clean up folks to wipe down and disinfect the place more often instead of once a day or week.

____ Service stations, car washes, door entries, buggies / carts any place with a public handle...... disposable gloves are nice but not always handy. Some kind of hand wipe you use before you grab something ?? I know some doctors offices have a button you push with your elbow that opens doors for you, that's nice. You touch a handle then your face or eyes or nose and you have those mean virus things inside you making you sick.
........
NEW HABIT All the more reason to avoid public places ! Handles are hard to avoid! Some kind of hand wipes after you come out and before you get back into your car is good. You can actually have a lot of the food delivered from Amazon and other places. You may not be a fan but in a bad outbreak or a family with compromised members you are avoiding a whole lot of personal contact with a lot of people when you order things in. Stock up on the things you can for the food items. Your freezer is your friend here for sure.

____ Public functions..... ball games at school, whole city league events, races, baseball, football etc. Sure they are fun but think about all those nasty germs floating around. Wear a mask ? Sure and then you touch something and expose yourself to more stuff. No Thank You.
 ------
NEW HABIT. TV usually has wonderful coverage of many sporting events. It's not as fun as the tailgate parties or football parties in someone's home.  Ok maybe no coverage of the high school games etc. but you can usually get your fix for sports on the tv. Enough said. It is much easier, cheaper, safer to do this at home with family. Make your own immediate family party no extra friends to come in and make you sick if you like the excitement. Party snacks etc.

This is way long enough. You get the idea. Do the best you can in your situation to avoid as much as you can when out and about. Make your home your fortress of solitude, your safe zone for a little while until things calm down around you and you have the family immunity and good habits in force.

Love
