Many Americans are feeling helpless, just making it, not knowing what to
do. It's like they don't know they can do anything other than what they
are used to doing.
Like many other Americans we have credit cards. Always on the prowl
to find some 0% interest no matter if it's $100 or $10,000! Some are
using the government deferral program.
Well anyway I talked to women in Ark, Calf., and Florida today. Each
one I asked what state they were in and how they were making it. I asked things like...
Do you have a yard?
Do you have a garden?
Can you grow in large pots?
One lady in Florida talked about all the wonderful orange and mango
and other good things Okies just can't think of growing. She didn't act
like she grew veggies. She was all about fruit trees she was Hispanic
and I think was used to the fruit more. I told her our main thing is we
have a lot of pecan trees here with and whatever folks plant for fruit
trees.
One lady living in single bedroom apartment in California she was
funny. No yard, has a small spot on balcony she tried growing plants in
pots but always forgot to water. The funny part was she has aunt and
uncle 10 miles away that have given her veggies a few times. They gave
her a cabbage and she had to ask what it was! She said she had only seen
them in the grocery store without all the leaves on the outside from
the garden. I told her maybe she needs to make a visit for some more
veggies and safely visit on the front porch.
Here is the deal. NONE OF THEM THOUGHT ABOUT DOING ANYTHING DIFFERENT !
Each one had the notion that this is the way it is and we are making
it, we're handling it, yes we are short a few things but that's the way
it is. I told them that we are all going to have to do something
different. That what the government is doing isn't working. We are
going to have to learn how to do some things for ourselves since some folks can't be nice to each other and behave.
Each one I talked to them about how they cook, from scratch, boxes
etc. The one that had a yard I encouraged to try growing veggies. Same
with only places to grow in pots. Told her if she's hungry she will
remember to water it.LOL One doesn't bake but she cooks other dishes. I
said maybe fix something and trade with someone she knows that has
veggies.
I told them we live in a small area and I would like to get the local
farmers and growers of food to be available to supply the town with
what they can so people don't have to worry about if walmart is out of
stock on things. Get the churches involved to help with the distribution and communication. Maybe find someone that can supply a kitchen to
let folks learn or have help preserving food by canning or drying.
One lady said she does have one of those food drier things but she
has never used it. I let them all know they can go on you tube and learn
all kinds of things about growing your favorite veggies and drying foods.
Each one of them were Oh WOW ! I didn't think of that ! That's a good idea!
So maybe they won't feed the whole town. Maybe they will learn to
make food friends. Maybe their family (one lady had kids) will not be as
hungry as they could have been,
The thing is I hope (it sounded like it) it gave them a spark and
maybe even some hope or they talk to someone about that weird lady on
the phone talking about growing food.
Get the spark turned into a flame so the small towns can work
together and learn how to provide for the area. They need a list of
growers of all things veggie, herbs, eggs, chickens, goat milk, cow
milk, someone to be a butcher, nursery plants for heirloom garden plants, someone to teach folks ( now days 6 feet
apart ) how to can or dry items or make jelly etc. Then distribution and
processing would be next.
Maybe they can't provide everything but they sure as heck won't have to worry about walmart running out of stuff so much!
Please feel free to share this with your churches, mayors, farmers
