Food & Money Shortages with Babies

If you have a child and are no longer breast feeding ( or someone in the family that has a child )  but feeding some kind of formula that is unavailable to you for whatever reason you may want to think about this information.
I copied this from a email letter link I get. I can't put the link in for different reasons.
Please know I have not tried these recipes. I have no clue as far as suitability for your child. Every child is different. If you are having a hard time locating formula or money ask a health care person (Doctor, Nurse, Nutritionist )  their opinion before using it.
feel free to share with folks that may need this information

DIY FAKE FORMULA FOR BABY ALIVE OR REBORN DOLLS HOW TO MAKE
        FAKE ...
Note that these formulas should only be used as a last resort, such as if you are unable to leave your home to purchase baby formula in stores.
Some things to consider while trying these emergency baby formulas:
  1. Don’t add vitamin supplements to this formula.
  2. Baby’s liver & kidneys are delicate, adding vitamins to formula strains vital organs.
  3. Use pure cane sugar. A baby needs sugar so they can process protein.
  4. Beet sugar, in some granulated sugar, contains traces of herbicide Roundup.
  5. If baby is under 12 months of age, don’t use formulas that require honey.
  6. Giving younger babies honey may put them at risk of infant botulism.
Formula 1: Dry milk powder emergency baby formula
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/3 cups boiled water
  • 1/4 cup non-instant dry milk powder (or 1/2 cup - 1 Tbsp. instant dry milk)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
Preparation:
  1. Set boiled water aside until it cools before adding other ingredients.
  2. Combine milk powder and sugar, then add mixture to warm water.
  3. Stir until lumps dissolve. Some brands of dry milk dissolve faster than others.
  4. Add coconut oil to mixture.
  5. Pour mixture into baby bottle. If no baby bottles, spoon-feed formula instead.
Formula 2: Evaporated milk emergency baby formula
Ingredients:
  • 9 oz water
  • 6 oz evaporated whole milk (don’t substitute low-fat or nonfat milk)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
Preparation:
1. Combine all ingredients, stir until the sugar is dissolved.
2. Pour the mixture into a baby bottle.

Formula 3: Cooked rice emergency baby formula
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups boiled water
  • 1/2 cup cooked rice
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
Preparation:
  1. Combine water, rice and sugar in blender on high.
  2. Process mixture at least 5 minutes or until rice is completely blended in.
  3. Pour the mixture into a baby bottle.
Use these formulas as a last resort while they contain ingredients that are safe for baby, none provide essential vitamins and minerals that a growing infant needs.

If a survival event lasts more than a day, find a source of formula or look for someone who can nurse baby.

Prepping with a baby

When prepping with an infant, you must also stock on these emergency supplies before disaster strikes.
  1. Purified infant water – Use purified water when making emergency formula.
  2. Maintenance fluids – help baby stay hydrated if they get sick.
  3. Baby bottles, nipples and sippy cups – You need extras, if you need to bug out and don’t have access to tools to prepare formula while traveling.
  4. Diapers – Buy baby diapers in bulk and store in plastic airtight container.
  5. For a more eco-friendly option, stock up on reusable cloth diapers.
  6. Hand sanitizer – Wash hands thoroughly with soap and running water,
  7. You will need hand sanitizer to maintain proper hygiene when no water .

  1. Wife and I used cloth diapers on both kids. We found some velcro wrap panties that went over cloth diaper so we didn't have to do safety pins. I can still smell diaper wash day 30 years later! --Dave

  2. Oh Heavens! We had the diaper pail for disposables. I don't care how frequently you emptied it with the plastic trash bag liner....... it smelled! That is something any parent can not forget. The only good thing I can say at least it didn't smell like a cat's potty place ! LOL
