Sleep to Rain & Thunder Sounds |
        Relaxing Thunderstorm White Noise ...
It's 1 AM and I woke up to a thunderstorm. The television has been talking about a late night rumble coming though and it for sure is a rumble! As I sit here on the computer knowing full well I should just unplug (although I have it plugged into a protected box) I continue to type.
Something about a late night thunderstorm that is just perfect for a good nights sleep. Now here in the middle of tornado ally you have to make sure first that is all it's going to be so you can enjoy it all.
The light thunder that you hear in the distance as it is coming your way. The beginning of the rain outside as it starts to slowly drip off the roof and continuously gets heavier and heavier. Your sitting there calmly and suddenly jump out of your skin with that huge big clap of thunder as the atmosphere above you bumps into each other and protests. The lights flicker but thank goodness stays on.You hear the rain hitting the metal roof of the house and you know it's just pouring and coming down in waves of intense wetness. No hail which is common here in Oklahoma this time of year. The thunder continues to rumble loudly as it stomps it's way through the area but as it travels through you can also hear it is fading and going on through to the east heading towards Nikki's house. As with many storms it is probably going to the far eastern part of Oklahoma passing on into Arkansas to soak my other daughter Allexcia that I am sure has had plenty enough wetness which is also very normal for Arkansas.
The noise is pretty much gone now. I just hear rain pouring off my roof in a steady way now. Above the constant shedding of the rain from the roof I hear the rain coming in sheets one second then calming to only hearing the occasional rain off the roof. If I wait a few minutes it seems to start the cycle all over again just without all the racket. From the occasional drippy roof back to pouring out of a huge bucket in the sky in waves to fading to nothing and eventually totally disappearing leaving us to go grace someone else with the sounds for good sleep.
The ground outside will be soaked good in the morning. Puddles will be found. All the dust and dirt will be washed from the trees, weeds and cars. The grass will have a different brighter color green for the cows to enjoy chomping and constantly eating and mowing the pasture.
Any trip to town will for sure reward you with a truck that looks like it has been dipped in a chocolate vat at least up to the door handles. Leaving ruts everywhere in the road and even using 4 wheel drive you just cuss the road and the mess it's making on your vehicle that was clean when you looked out the window at supper time the night before.
Well here comes another pouring rain...... it's now 1:36 AM and I am for sure ready to go back to sleep to the wonderful sound of mother nature lulling me to sleep once again.

Cloudy Dreary Rainy Day

It's 67* with a high of about 73* today. Cloudy dreary light rainy weather.

It's. 9 am hubby is fed he has birds and cows taken care of and I decided to just come out and sit on the porch.
I told hubby I just needed a break from dark and dreary in the house. He said it's that way out here ! I told him nope! Not as bad as inside and I get fresh air .
He and Heidi Ho sat out here with me a few minutes and decided to go in.
I like the rain. This kind of slow rain is so soothing. We needed it. The hay field is all cleaned off of hay bales and soaking it up. Nikki's place we recently brush hogged and it can green up and get pretty again. The Sire's place I worked on a few weeks ago and I have most of the south side looking good. It has the poorest soil from being farmed for probably a 100 yrs . It's slow growing on the grass but those darn weeds are just terrible! Hubby said it's a waist of time but I told him I for sure want to get the north side of the place looking better before he has to put hay spikes on the tractor . I don't want to have to look at all that nasty stuff all winter where we drive and feed ! He said it would fall down after frost and I told him it didn't last yr and we had to look at it all year ! I sometimes think I need goats.
I also brush hogged behind the house in our little nursury pasture where we put cows we need to keep a close eye on.
Things are going to look so good in a few days after this rain kicks in !!
Well darn. I have called everyone available this time of morning, wrote this little day report now I guess I have to go in and deal with kitchen, desk and hubby's 2 teeth he had taken out on Monday . He is such a Sheldon sometimes, overthinking every little tiny thing like he has no clue  !!  Grrr but it is kinda funny I just try to laugh about it. I told him listen.... I had 5-6 taken out at a time several times with abscesses and broken down below the gums.... Really ! What your doing is amature hr here dear ! Lol
Darn. I give up.  Dark dreary house , chores and insurance paperwork is calling.

Mute Sounds

                    Mute Sounds

The day and week seems to fly and drag on at the same time,
With all the drama of elections and the worry over something we have very little control.
It is fall.
Leaves changing, crazy up and down temps,
The weather practicing for winter with one day cool the next silly hot.
The work of the ranch always goes on . Usually the same ol' same ol'.
Sometimes we have purple unicorns show up out of nowhere in the barn overnight,
Then most of the times it is the normal worries about muscle strain, lagging energy, and work.
At one time in a far off land these worries were not known you just did it and went on.

Night time is down time,
Literally many times.
Just wishing you didn't hurt so dang much from the little things like getting up and down out of a tractor.

When you get up to move around you ask someone if they need anything to save them the pain of movement.
You might move slow at first. Wincing, limping until you loosen up.
This is what you save the other from when getting something " while your up",
Surprisingly, this is love for the person you have been with for over 41 years.

Early in the night one of you may retire early to the comforts of the bed for a little while.
The other relaxes a while longer in the recliner.
Shutting out the day with loud noises from the entertainment box.
While hitting the mute button at times to listen to the world outside for normal sounds.

Sometimes normal sounds are Oklahoma wind.
Some of the night sounds may be a pack of coyotes running through singing to each other.
On occasion you hear the lone coyote yipping or singing for the others.
Heidi Ho hears the songs and has to make sure to let us know she is doing her job.
She growls and barks when inside.
When in the dark yard she runs to the fence sometimes nose to nose with the wild ones.
The normally quiet companion is going wild at the chain link fence barking and being fierce,
The wild one is on the other side hackles up, body bowed, snapping and snarling at the tame jailed one.
When Heidi Ho is inside I tell her it is ok and turn the noise box up again so she isn't listening to the wild ones.
When she is in the dark yard jail, I usually open the door and tell her to get inside before the coyotes bite her!
Heidi Ho the 82# pit bull quickly runs into the house like they really will.

Tonight's Oklahoma mute sounds are sometimes not all that normal,
I heard the wet sounds.
Rain gently falling off the metal roof,
It isn't raining hard enough to make a sound when it hits the roof.
It waits.........
Not making any sound until it hits the ground and splashes in the newly formed puddles.

I keep the mute button on just sitting there.
Soaking up the sounds into my soul much like standing in the rain getting wet.
Instead I was coated inside with Mother Natures tranquilizer,
Laying back, no idiot box noise, Heidi Ho lightly snoring only the way a puppy dog can do,
With the slowly falling rain gently rolling off the roof,
Finally making that rain sound when it hits the ground,
Gentle splashing with such a quiet sound,
Yet reverberating through the soul.

As you soak up the sound,
You think of the ponds refreshing themselves.
Renewing the thirst quenching supply for the cows,
The water line that was down at least 6 feet from the edge now slowly flowing back up.
The brown and almost brown grass from summers dryness and falls lack of perfect temperatures,
Perking up, absorbing the refreshment while it can.
Soon to be canceled with winters frost until next spring once again being renewed.

I fall asleep and wake up 2 hours later.
The rain is still gently falling,
You realized you have had the most refreshing and relaxed sleep you've had in a long time.
It's like your soul is smiling......
The
gentleness of the night......
The calming of the rain........
As the soul soaks it up .....
It gently washes away all the nastiness of the day and even the last few days.

I need more of this more often,
God Please Send Me More Soul Food.
