     I said I would be posting this list. As times are rapidly changing around us we are going to have to do some thinking on how to change with it. One of these is to avoid illness the best we can. These plants may not keep a person from getting ill from mosquito's but if we get some growing around our doors we go in an out of, in the areas where people like to sit and gab outside or the kids play, even under some of those windows we are opening more to save money on the electric bill we at least should increase our odds of avoiding illness or just plain avoiding the !!@#$ itchiness of a bite!
    Yes you can go buy cans of bug spray for you yard or even your body if you don't mind putting chemicals on and in your body. But that also takes money that is even harder to come by with inflation or job lay offs! So if you can find some of these plants while income is still coming in it would be a good idea. Get you a start of some and divide or grow some more to share with other family members or close neighbors. Keeping our family and friends around us in a safer environment is always a good thing. The more folks we have around us doing ok / better in our changing world the better we will also do.

Homemade Mosquito Repellent

     This information is from one of the best places on herbal ingredients and it's uses, Mountain Rose Herbs  

         Mosquito's are famous for making people sick for sure. So go through your house and make sure your window screens are in good shape and repair what is needed. I know many of us are in a drought with high 3 digit temps but don't let water sit around too long outside. Also those little buggers like to hide in bushes. Check your bushes around you house in the afternoon and see if you are harboring the little disease carrying critters. You may want to relocate or remove some plants. There is a list of plants that repel mosquitoes I will post latter on. You can see by this list of ingredients there are a few you may want to try growing in your yard or play areas.

      With everyone trying to save some money on the electric bill and with windows open or staying in the shade outside there will be more bug bites all the way around. Other than it being totally annoying there are health safety issues to be concerned with when it comes to bug bites.
    This is really good article. It has links on how to make your own extracts to make this recipe even. If you can't afford these essential oils you can gather your own plant material and make your own using Vodka as a extracting medium.

Herbal Mosquito Repellent

Makes about 8 oz.

Ingredients
    4oz. organic catnip leaf extract, or make your own tincture
    4oz. organic witch hazel extract
    20 drops organic Atlas cedarwood essential oil
    20 drops organic lemon eucalyptus essential oil
    20 drops organic lavender essential oil
    20 drops organic rosemary essential oil
    10 drops organic lemongrass essential oil
    10 drops organic lemon essential oil

Directions
    Pour both catnip extract and witch hazel extract into an 8 oz. bottle.
    Slowly drip the essential oils into the bottle.
    Cap the bottle and shake vigorously to combine.
    Store in the refrigerator with tight-fitting lid. Mixture will be shelf-stable for up to a year when stored properly.

To Use
    Replace the lid with optional mister cap or shake bottle and pour some into a smaller spray bottle that you can take with you for day trips. Return remainder to refrigerator.
    Shake well before each use. Spritz over exposed skin, avoiding eyes and mucus membranes.
    Reapply as often as needed.

Pro Tip: If you don’t already have these essential oils on hand and plan to purchase oils to make this recipe, you can substitute an equal amount of Mountain Rose Herbs’ Bug Blend essential oil instead of purchasing multiple oils.
