Boro Sashiko Technique

 Boro Sashiko Technique

https://susanbriscoe.blogspot.com/2018/11/edinburgh-exploring-japanese-boro.html

This has been a tough couple of years. Doesn't seem to be improving much either with high prices and layoffs going on. This is something that in the ("Good Ol' Days) when times were much tougher than they are now people would "patch" things. Anything from the hole in the cooking pot to their ripped knee in the pants.
I don't want you feeling bad because you can't afford new or even used whatever..... Just make your repairs as a art form! Like the coat of many colors.
With our energy we use for heating and cooling becoming more expensive or in some cases due to equipment failure and no parts available, making some pretty blankets for the winter out of those well loved jeans or hoodies is a good recycling thing that will keep someone warm this winter.
Take a look at the links and even if you don't want to do this exact thing you may find something for good inspiration.

Boro Sashiko  Technique ( blog talking about the subject)

Reminds me of Crazy Quilting. It depends on if you use it for decorative embroidery or in actually holding fabric together to make a bigger piece of fabric to use.

Definition

Sashiko is an traditional Japanese embroidery style which dates back to the Edo period (1615 – 1868). It was mostly used by the working class farming and fishing families as to make stronger more practical workwear. A worn-out piece was stitched with layers of old cloth, producing a sturdy garment passed down through generations. ( more at the link about this method)

Video on You Tube
It's all in Spanish and I can't find a English switch for it but just watch and you can easily see how to do it. It's 32 minutes long but you can skip through it or speed up the video.
