Water Storage
It may not be practical for your family to store enough water for one full year for each family member so good water purification devices and methods are strongly advised. The below water storage estimate is for minimum drinking water only not enough for cooking, rehydrating foods, cleaning, and bathing. Additionally, the CDC recommends only using between 8 and 16 drops of bleach per gallon of water for sanitation.
Water 730 Gallons
Bleach 4 Gallons

Reasons and Basics for Food Supply and Storage

15 Essential Foods For Every Prepper's Pantry - SurviveUK  Homesteader Pantry « Inhabitat – Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building   52 Week Food Storage Plan | Food storage organization, Prepper food, Emergency preparedness food
Is storing extra food hording? We hear that a lot like its a bad thing. Ready.gov,The American Red Cross are two groups that suggest having extra food around the house for emergencies. At one time it was 3 months worth I see now they are back to 3 days again.
When have you seen ANY organization government or otherwise respond in 3 days time? Lots of times there are people MONTHS later not just doing without but can't even find resources to get hand outs. Hurricanes down south, Texas Blizzards and even covid. There has been a whole lot of people going hungry during those times and it took a whole lot longer than any 3 days to get help if they could find it! I don't know of anyone that wants to have their child or other family members uncomfortably hungry and stressed during a already stressful time. How many of you saw on tv or were maybe in some of those lines and lines of cars
backed up going miles just hoping they didn't run out of food before your turn came this spring?
Be ready the next time and there will be more probably. I am already hearing about other countries going on lock down again due to covid. It's only a matter of time before we have to go through that again. Take any tax refund or any other government money coming your way and invest in extra storable foods. If someone gives you food even if it isn't in you to eat that flavor or whatever. Take it and maybe give to other family members or trade it for something you like.

The information below is very basic. You may be aware of all of it. Then again you can use this maybe to teach others in your family or group the reason why. Next will be what a family of 4 needs for a year.

Our Uncertain World

                               Certainty in an Uncertain world
Does anyone still listen to regular news any more? If you do you either hear all kinds of rosey things like things are getting better ! The shots are out and everyone is going to be safe and well! Then there is the yes things are good but WATCH OUT a different version is coming back and it's even worse!
If you listen to alternative news you hear about 20 countries are halting things because of blood clots. Then you hear other things about a lot of people in the front lines that are refusing to take anything. There are all kinds of people not making it either minutes and hours or just within days of "doing their duty". Personally I have talked to quite a few people from just regular folks to doctors and nurses and people at the bank and every one of them say they have not had any problems other than maybe a little sore arm. Well at least so far. I'm waiting to see how things work out for the folks within the next 6 months or if the "new virus" kicks their tail because they did their duty.
We can't stick our head in the sand because oh! We might get sick. Some folks have done their duty and feel like they are "safe". They talk about the science behind it all and even though the science also talks about the high odds of doing good if you do get it unless your over a certain age or have health issues.
We don't know what is going to happen next. Our new normal is uncertainty, fear, wonder how to pay bills, if you will have food to eat and that is when the stores are open and food on the shelves! When the newest biggest bug is going to be turned loose on us. What are they going to do next time? Shut down our food supply again? Just limit what is available and who can work and who has to go begging for whatever it takes to make it through till things get better?
How many of us are just saying we can do this. Just be patient it's getting better see? How many of us feel hopeless. Wondering how you can do it and if you can depend on anyone other than yourself of immediate family.
I guess it gets down to now days like a dangerous sporting event. The best defense is a good offense. ( Is that the way it goes? I'm not a sports person.)
What can we do when the politics of our country doesn't seem to be making things better and sometimes worse? Inflation is what is supposed to be hitting us next. Partly due to some kind of oil pipeline being canceled I think I heard. That means everything we need and use every day will start climbing in price. How the ~~!@# can you do that when you can't afford what you have to have now?!!
I have been doing some thinking about that. I found some kind of gadget online that can figure out just how much most families need for a whole year. Isn't that what the Mormons do? Have a large amount of food stored just for times like now? Anyway .... I am going to be printing some stuff on the blog for families to know how much they may use in a year. Yes not all families will use that much or the same things but it gives a person guidance. I didn't put numbers in for children because I figured if I do Adults only that should take care of the kids. That is unless you have a teenage boy that can eat a whole barn food of chow! LOL
The first one I am putting out will be basic info for a person to chew on. I hope some of this info will either get a person thinking or what would be wonderful is to let it be the start of a person teaching others. Many of the people I personally know are aware of these things. Every now and then I run into someone that wants to know more but doesn't know where to start or maybe they just need a little info on how to store food in buckets or about canning using a pressure canner. I don't know all those answers BUT part of the purpose of this is to get folks to communicate and work together teaching and learning.
Learning groups could be with other family members, the person you know at school that gardens and can's all the time you can help them and learn how to do things. It can be churches with knowledgeable people saying I know how to can, dry food, use storage buckets or bags anyone wants to learn this meet me here at a certain time. Maybe the church has a kitchen or room you can use if you don't want folks in your home now days.
When you look at the numbers for just a family it doesn't look too hard. When you start getting up into the 25, 100, 1000 numbers for families or church groups or even a small town like 3000 people don't be intimidated.
I got to looking at a lot of the foods and they can be grown in most places of the country. You get some folks with some farming equipment out there going and you can actually feed a town of 3000 people! It doesn't even have to be a farmer. If you get enough folks growing tomatoes or cucumbers or potatoes in a large back yard even it's amazing how many folks can eat.
You can have your own connections and sell or trade goods with folks. If every small town had a good butcher processing place, a good farmers market, a commercial kitchen with trained folks to turn out safe canned goods ( or at least learn how) from jelly to green beans. Even some kind of small mill just big enough to process wheat into flour.... that town wouldn't have to be so concerned about if wally world has food on the shelves. Worried about the powers that be messing everything up again or even worse....? No problem if small towns were able to provide most of their own stuff.
Bonus thing is providing the towns own food supply would also provide a lot of jobs for out of work people! It can be done. Just folks have to get together and figure it out. Spring is here... time to plant gardens and have extra to sell or share with folks in need.
Contact your ag people for your county. All kinds of grants out there for greenhouses and especially if your of a color other than white skin you can probably get a good start into something to provide your family and community with year round foods.

( Oh yes, maybe the government is all worried about skin colors before they will help you but I don't care what your skin color is. I will teach, buy or sell or give you food if needed if your good folks.)

Oklahoma Storm Season .. Here it Comes!

                                 Storms and Snow Early Wed

Tuesday night is our first night of the season you start hearing on the TV about all the bad weather headed our way in Oklahoma dealing with tornado season. Now I know they just love to scare the holy be Jesus out of everyone and at the moment it really isn't that bad at all. Just a lot of possibilities.
It's time to start checking and revamping the tornado bags! Hubby has said !!@#$ NO! He's not going into that !!@#$ cellar! He can't get up and down in it anyway and every time he goes in one he comes back out sick with a cold from all the damp who know whats in there! I told him fine sit in the truck just outside the door and if it gets bad you can do the butt bump like a kid on the stairs down in it! He didn't particularly like that one either ! LOL Then he said what about Frosty? You can't get her down in the !!@@# hole! ( As you can see he gets disturbed over cellars.)
So ok I have a kind of gym bag I carry with me every day. Some call it a EDC. It has all my needful daily things plus some what if things. You know like blood clot stuff for accidents for hubby on blood thinners, my portable battery powered asthma inhaler, different meds, utility tool, dagger, (it was Jon's ) small led bright light, big bandages, peppermint for nervous storm stomach, shoot a whole bunch of other things but never enough. You always forget things. Oh yes, mini screw diver set, eye glass repair set,
Anyway I had to renew the candy, put new batteries in the pulse ox for checking O2 levels, put a new extra battery for the asthma machine. Most everything else looked good enough.
Now I need to find some extra clothing. Remember you don't want to wear dirty undies for the next few weeks if everything gets blown away. LOL If your like me and big you can't always find the size you need.
Now I need to check the emergency first aid bag it would be nice to have it small because it's hard to carry many things in a real hurry. Most tornado events I believe injuries are cuts and bruises. Still extra is always good.
I need to find the head lamps and put in my purse. When it's raining and you have your hands fulls they are handy.
Speaking of lights... need to check the batteries in the truck lights and house flashlights.
<<< Oh FUN.... Just talking about baseball size hail somewhere in western Oklahoma.
75 - 90 mph winds. It's away from me a ways but shows what's out there tonight.>>>
I haven't got much sleep the last few days. I ate a Mc Ds bacon egg and cheese like a idiot and 3 hours later my BP dropped down to 108/67 with a 151 pulse & I can't breathe. Man! That feels scary and like crap all at once. I sit still and drink some Pepsi for the caffeine and 7 minutes later it was 138/85 with 84 p.then 8 minutes after that it was 143/90 w 82p ! The rest of the day my whole body is tired and weak muscles with some flittering sensations ever now and then. So I dip down to low then go to high and it jumps the blood sugar way up from drinking soda off and on all day when it starts to get to low again. With all that going on it messes up your sleep no matter how tired you are you just sleep a couple of hours. The next day I slept 10 hours straight that night. All of this from buttermilk biscuit, bacon and cheese alpha gal allergy reaction!
So here we go again it's Tuesday night and although the weather isn't that threatening but just enough to keep you on your toes. So I might as well check the tornado bags. They are pretty much here and there so I need to get everything in one spot. Also get some trash bags out and figure out how to water proof and be able to carry stuff at the same time. EVERYTHING ALWAYS GETS WET ! I leaned that one after a few times.
So still some organizing to do. Need some snack food and to pack a Frosty puppy go bag also. She has to have her blankies and puppy dog food and treat ya know! LOL
After I get my stuff done I need to some how sneak my hubbies stuff done so I don't have to listen to him !!@#$ about it all while I do it.
So OK everyone! We just got through hearing about the Texas snowmageton now spring is trying to raise some cane. Get your bags ready for each person. Put important papers in something weather proof and solid so they don't get blown away or wet.
So remember light, food, undies, meds, first aid, cell phone chargers and charged, money and whatever else you think is needful.

P.S...... And of course....DON'T FORGET THE T.P. ! ...

Home Freeze Dryer Vs. Pre-Packed Freeze Dried Food

 White medium freeze dryer

The most seen machine on the net is Harvest Right Brand
https://harvestright.com/product/home-freeze-dryer/

Naturally they can spell it out here to where a home freeze drier just isn't any fun at all! If they were a whole lot cheaper than the $4000.00 or so I have seen I would do it just for the fun!

https://www.legacyfoodstorage.com/pages/should-i-buy-a-freeze-dryer?utm_source=google&utm_medium=search&utm_campaign=811186779&utm_term=home%20freeze%20dryer%20machine&utm_content=237575399957&gclid=CjwKCAiAhbeCBhBcEiwAkv2cYy9KDdyCEHi7-P0arqSrnR5OjsxnLgJj-4D94Kfx_2-teIzSpw55BRoC47oQAvD_BwE

I have serious food issues and I just don't know if I can purchase something in long term food storage in some things that won't make me sick.
If things were to really get limited on the supply chain availability even with storing food at home I would be in serious trouble.
Just having the right kind of fat to eat and cook with would be a problem. No lard or butter is allowed with my breathing. Just thinking ahead.... Oils will only last 1-2 years I think.

Daylight Savings Time This Weekend

Time to "Spring" Forward - Daylight Saving Time Starts Tonight

What a good article! I learned something.....

Why we recognize Daylight Saving Time
By Maria Antonieta Valery Gill, AccuWeather Staff Writer

On Sunday, March 14 at 2 a.m., clocks in most parts of the country will spring forward one hour as daylight saving time (DST) begins, and it will run until Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021. Even though this means losing one hour of sleep this weekend, you'll actually be gaining an extra hour of daylight in the evening.

The first person to hint at this idea was U.S. Founding Father and scientist Benjamin Franklin in 1784. While working in Paris as an ambassador to the U.S. he wrote an essay titled "An Economical Project" to the editor of the Journal de Paris arguing that Parisians would save a lot of money on candles if they woke up at the time of sunrise and went to bed as the sun set.

However, the concept of DST wasn't fully conceived until more than a century later. In 1895, New Zealand entomologist George Vernon Hudson wrote a paper to the Wellington Philosophical Society proposing a two-hour shift forward in October and a two-hour shift backward in March. Unfortunately, he was criticized and mocked for his proposal, as it was said to be confusing.

It wasn't until 1916, two years into the First World War, that DST was first implemented. Germany, one of the most powerful European countries at the time, decided to turn every clock in the country one hour ahead. The goal was to minimize the use of artificial lighting so that fuel could be saved for war efforts. Soon after, other European countries -- including Austria, France and the United Kingdom -- followed suit.

In the U.S., however, this change took longer to arrive. In 1918, toward the end of the war, Pittsburgh-native Robert Garland introduced the idea after his visit to the U.K. After presenting the idea, it was signed and approved by President Wilson on March 8 of that same year.

Only seven months later, as the war came to a close, DST was repealed and wouldn't make a return until the Second World War, when it was reintroduced.

From the end of the war in 1945 up until 1966, there was no uniformity in the use of DST in the country, which caused quite a bit of confusion. Some major cities, like New York City, decided to keep DST while others stopped its use after the war.

This confusion came to an end in 1966, when the Uniform Time Act of 1966 was implemented by the U.S. Department of Transportation. This Act mandates the official start and end dates of DST in the country as March through November, and divides the country into different time zones.

Some states were not in favor of this law. Arizona -- with the exception of the Navajo territory -- and Hawaii opted out of DST.

Not all states see DST in a negative light. Florida Senator Marco Rubio has introduced a bill, The Sunshine Protection Act, in attempts to make DST permanent.

"Studies have shown many benefits of a year-round daylight saving time, which is why multiple states have followed Florida’s lead in voting to make it permanent,” Rubio said. “I will not let daylight fade on my Sunshine Protection Act.”
The advantages of making DST permanent, according to a press release on Rubio's site, include a decrease in car crashes, a reduction in cardiac issues and seasonal depression, a reduction in the number of robberies by 27%, among several other benefits.

States that have joined Florida in seeking to make DST permanent include Alabama, Arkansas, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee and Washington.

Life’s Lemons

What to do when life gives you lemons | by Ron Gibori | Marketing And Growth Hacking

I tell you what, life has been dealing Americans so many lemons recently and the last year. If you’re supposed to make lemonade out of lemons ..... well.... you better get your life preservers and boat oars out because we’re in for one heck of a dang lemonade flood!
What is the correct recipe for all these lemons?!
America has been blessed for so many years and we have had so many good worry free (well for many people) years of no serious worries we haven’t a clue how to deal with these adversities.
Texas has been the main news at the moment. Senseless dumb ways folks and even their pets and animals are dying because of not being able to think clearly to avoid death. Someone up north would be more prepared to stay warm or keep water from freezing. They are acclimated to those conditions.
Southern people can deal with heat better usually. The individual people are at a disadvantage. The people in charge of the grid, water supply, and natural gas are paid to keep up with all possibilities no matter how remote of the adverse things that could happen.
Those rose colored glasses on many I’m sure are flung aside. It’s proven once again you can’t count on the governmental structures running all things providing our comfort and safety.
For those that survive learn from this and don’t ever let you and yours be caught with your pants down. See what went wrong for your family and plan as quickly as possible to not only correct it but never let this be repeated.
If you have time to listen to a famous prepper he has a webcast he talks a little slow you can up the video speed one notch and it helps. For those that don't want to take that long he has it in print.
I know it's a bit after the fact but this website has a list of 15 things this well known prepper person learned during his ordeal with the Texageddon event in central Texas.
https://www.afinalwarning.com/498260.html
Chickens for some folks are just food. Other folks they are pets and even entertainment watching them be silly. All your animals need a better than what you think they need for temperatures in your area. You are protecting your food source folks!
I wish I had another dependable heat and food prep source.
We had entertainment with the snow. I wish I could get the video on the blog of a snow white 80 pound pit named Frosty running like a race horse in the snow! Man she's fast! She blended in so good you just saw a white streak moving until she got close. Hubby managed to slip and fall flat on his back getting into the house after a dentist outing. I missed the show. It sounded about like what you see in the cartoons. He was just sore the next day. Me... I was holding on to the side of the truck with both hands carefully getting out. I did what you might call the almost splits.. you know when you do the splits just enough to hurt the hips?LOL  Then another day I was going out to the truck and I was standing outside of the roof drip line so I wouldn't get wet.... Low and behold a great big load of snow slid off the metal roof along with a few icicles and landed full force on the back and shoulders. It was a pretty good thump but more surprise than anything. I started laughing and hubby was in the truck laughing also. I took my jacket off to shake off the snow and succeeded in having my snowed hair fall off under my collar making me do a dance to get that cold stuff off. I mean sometimes life can be a bugs bunny cartoon! We laughed off and on for 15 minutes every time we thought about it.
The weather is getting nice now staying into the 60's+ a little while during the day. We actually have some sunshine! I'm sitting out on the east side of my house in the mornings about 10 am soaking up some vitamin D and wonderful light rays my body needs to function properly.
Today I cleaned out 2 big red plastic tubs as big as a half barrel the son in law used for mineral / protein cow licks. I am going to experiment with growing some potatoes in them. I tried a little last year and learned I have a critter that likes to climb in and dig them out so I am going to find some nice looking wire and protect the plants so that doesn't happen.
I think I am going to find some rechargeable batteries to use so we don't have to worry about always purchasing more. I would like to find some solar lights also although the last few weeks have been so gloomy I can't imagine they would have worked. When the electric goes off something like that might come in handy. Interesting experiment in the house for sure. LOL
I am putting together some information on just how much food a group of adults of 4, 25, or 50 or even 1000 would need to have to function for a year. We have too many things disrupting our food chain to not take a good hard look at what people need to do to be ready for crazy weather, upside down government baloney or even the supply chain disrupted from something as simple as a computer glitch from hackers.
Something like Texas shouldn't happen anywhere. People can't count on the normal shopping habits and delivery supplies any longer. Even the darn government shutting down businesses ! So it is a plandemic this time what other things can they come up with I don't even want to imagine.
It's another Fooled Us Once shame on you!
Fooled Us Twice shame on me!

Ok I gabbed enough... I made a good flourless peanut butter cookie I will send in soon.
