Aldi's had cherries at $1.39 lb. I bought 12 lbs the first time. Then I found out how many pounds it takes to make jelly and decided that wasn't enough if I wanted to try pies or anything else. I bought 9 more pounds today so although I have all the other in the freezer I now have 9 lbs to do still.
I started out with these. Washed stems taken off and dried.
I bought this little doo dad from Amazon and it cost around $12. It only does 6 cherries at a time which sounds really slow. I was wondering if it would hold up being plastic but it did really good. A whole lot better than my left shoulder did any way LOL.
I went through these first 12 pounds using this little pitter in about 45 minutes. I put them in the freezer in a single layer in some cake pans and cookie sheets so they wouldn't stick. As I was putting them into gallon baggies I thought I would see what they tasted like frozen. UMMM Good ! I thought they would be hard as a rock but they made perfect little cherry popsicle's.
See how pretty they turned out ! Just beautiful ! Now it did miss a few of the pits so you do have to watch out on the larger ones but still only 45 minutes for such beauties!
Oh yes, I gave the pits to Nikki to put in her compost pile to see if she could grow some cherry trees just for fun!
